Corporal Ernest Robert Bowen Dolby (Service No:Q197118) served in the ACMF from 24 July 1940 to 14 May 1942 with 1st Labour Coy (Trade Groups - Driver and Cook). Corporal Dolby was attached to 1 Remount Squadron at Discharge. Sons Ronald, Neville and Wesley also served in WWII.

Ernest was born in Brisbane, QLD in 1892, youngest of two children of Robert William Dolby (aka Jones; b1861 in Surrey, England) and Harriet Sarah Halls (b1862 in Suffolk, England). Robert (a Painter) and Harriet married in London in 1885, and arrived in Brisbane, QLD in 1886 on board the Quetta. The couple settled in Brisbane, where they raised their family and Robert worked as a Painter and Salesman until 1889, when he Deserted his family and moved to Melbourne (using the alias Jones). Harriet remained in Brisbane, where she raised her two children and worked as a Nurse.

Ernest started work as a Carter in Brisbane where, in 1914, he married Charlotte Elizabeth Churton (b1892 in Sandgate, QLD). Ernest and Charlotte settled in Brisbane where they raised their family and Ernest worked as a Carter. Ernest was living in Manly and working as a Waiter in 1940 when he enlisted in the ACMF. He and Charlotte lived in Manly - where Ernest worked as a Salesman and Storeman. Charlotte died in 1956 and by 1963 Ernest had retired to Caloundra. In the mid 1970s he remarried to Fairries (Fay) Braden Cotter (nee Brown; b1919 in Goondiwindi, QLD) and lived in Tingalpa, QLD. Ernest died in 1992 and Fay in 2011.
