Private Ronald Arthur Duff (Service No:QX5095) enlisted in the AIF on 24 May 1940, and marched in to 1st Australian Core Troops Supply Column - graded Cook. Private Duff served in the Middle East (10 February 1941 - 17 March 1942), and transferred to 1st Australian Core Troops Petrol Coy on his return to Australia - graded Mechanic. Private Duff was attached to 1 Australian Core Troops Supply Column at Discharge on 30 July 1942.
Ron was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1912, second child and only son of Effie Ella Maud Duff (b1890 in Singleton, New South Wales) - his baptism certificate lists his father as a Donald Ross Duff, Draper in Glebe. Effie died of tuberculosis in 1915.
Ron (aka Ronald Derrick) was in Logan QLD in the 1920s, and worked there as a Labourer and Truck Driver. In 1937 in Brisbane, Ron married his first wife Myrtle Kaspar (b1917 in Brisbane, QLD) - Ron and Myrtle lived in Logan and Brisbane, where Ron was a Timbergetter and a Truck and Tractor Driver. In 1942 Ron was Discharged from the Army in Adelaide - he and Myrtle divorced in 1944, and both remarried. In 1946 in Adelaide, Ron married Doris Martha Hilda Shearer (nee Gunter; b1911 at Port Augusta, South Australia). Ron and Doris settled in Adelaide, where Ron worked as an Assembler until retirement. Doris died in 1974 and Ron died in 1984.
