Robert (aka Gordon) was the fourth of seven children of Robert Easton (born 1878 in Scotland) and Ann Elizabeth Cantlay (born 1878 in Toowoomba, QLD). Robert Snr, a Steam Train Fireman in Brisbane, QLD, married Ann in Toowoomba, QLD in 1907. Robert and Ann raised their family in Brisbane, QLD.

Robert Jnr was living in Brisbane, QLD when he enlisted in the Army in 1940. He served as a Sapper (Service Nos: Q13485/QX60405) in New Guinea and was with 11 Field Coy when he was Discharged in May 1946. Robert's brothers served with the RAAF in WWII - John as a Leading Aircraftman (Service No: 76564) and Allan as a Leading Aircraftman (Service No: 76457). Brother-in-Law Stanley Lewin was a Flight Sergeant (Service No: 8697).

Following his Discharge, Robert returned to brisbane, QLD where he lived with his parents briefly before working as a Locomotive Fireman at Mourilyan in Innisfail, QLD until the late 1960s. In 1972, Robert was in Brisbane living with his brother John and sister-in-law Beryl and working as a Storeman. Robert died in 1974
