John was the second of eight children of Thomas Earl Edwards Snr (born 1875 in Wales) and Isabella (Bella) Elizabeth Caldwell (born 1874 at Nerring in Victoria. Tom Snr was a Goldminer at Eaglehawk, Bendigo, Victoria in 1898 when he married Bella. The family lived in Western Australia at Daveyhurst near Menzies on the Goldfields from 1902 to 1906 - Tom Snr was a Gold Miner/Prospector. Returning to Bendigo, Tom Snr was a Gold Miner until his death in 1930.
John worked as a Labourer and was in Maryborough, QLD in 1940 when he enlisted in the Army. He was a Private (Service No:QX10577) attached to EC Signals Training Depot when he was Discharged in September 1945. Brother Thomas Earl (Private; Service No:2401) and Brother in Law Hubert Charles Jason (Private; Service No:4118) served in WWI and Brothers William Caldwell (Corporal; Service No:QX10578) and Sidney Edgar (Corporal; Service No:VX47334) served in WWII.
Returning to Maryborough, QLD John was working as a Labourer in November 1945 when he married Doris Norwood (born 1918 in Maryborough, QLD). John and Doris settled in Maryborough where John worked as a Labourer. Doris died in 1965 and John died in 1969.
