Peter
Roger known to us all as “Peter” was born on 21st May, 1920. Peter attended the Convent school where he can remember the Nuns giving him a reading book because of the kindness shown by his father, Roger. He tried to teach himself to read & worked on the cane farm with his father.
Enlisted 28th March, 1943 in Warwick, discharged 8th April, 1946, servicing with the 31/51st Battalion in New Guinea & Bouganville for 828 days.
Peter never married & worked with his mate & cousin Billy Carpenter cutting cane & on the railway most of his life. Billy who was also a bachelor loved a good time & many were the days when Peter, Billy & Bluey McPherson entertained their mates. They all loved fishing & moved to Midge Point when the retired.
Every Thursday after Peter retired he would call into “Breadalbane” to see his sister, Margaret. The home at Midge Point became the focal point for many of the Dray relations to call home over the years & their unique brand of humor will be lost to us all. Peter was a gentle person with never a bad word for anybody & greatly missed by his friends & relatives. Over the years Peter often helped out his nephews & nieces in times of crisis.
