Eric Vincent Fitzgerald was the younger brother of Henry (Harry) Matthew Fitzgerald QX43562, (Q133161), and Maurice Vessey Fitzgerald QX62880, (Q19150).
Eric was born in Brisbane 2 Jul 1925, a son to Robert James Fitzgerald and Dorothy Ann Fitzgerald (nee Howling). Following his discharge he ventured to Cairns where his brother Harry was living and managing the Cairns depot of Hanush's Cordials with his wife Mary Fitzgerald (nee Hanush), the daughter of business owner Frank and Mary Hanush of Babinda.
Eric also went to work for Hanush's Cordials at the Cairns depot where, on the afternoon of 14 Feb 1949, he was fatally injured in a work accident while directing a truck to the loading dock. The truck moving sharply and crushing him against the loading dock.
