Lambert was the eldest of five children of Lambert Gardner Snr (b1873 in Ipswich, QLD) and Mary Ann Follett (nee Denman; b1884 in Mutdapilly, QLD). Lambert Snr (a Labourer) and Mary Ann married in 1897 in Ipswich where they settled and raised their family. Lambert Snr worked as a Fireman and Miner.
Lambert was a Miner in Ipswich in 1919 when he married Jane Dobbie (b1899 In Ipswich, QLD). Lambert and Jane settled in Ipswich where they raised their family and Lambert was a Miner.
In June 1941, Lambert put his birthdate forward to 1906 to enlist in the Australian Army - stating he was thirth four years of age rather than his actual forty two years (QLD BDM: 1898/C/5732). He served as a Private (Service No:QX19502) with 21 Re-enforcements Engineers in the Middle East (1 November 1941 - 27 February 1943) and New Guinea (3 August 1943 - 4 April 1944). Lambert was Discharged in December 1944.
Lambert and Jane remained in Ipswich, where Lambert worked as a Miner. Jane died in 1970 and Lambert in 1990.
