Son of Augustus Walter Oakley and Mary Theresa Oakly of Dryburgh Street, North Melbourne, Victoria. 

Brother of Alfred Joseph Oakly who returned to Australia and was discharged on 28 February 1919 having served with the 7th Battalion.

Next of kin given as his brother Albert E. Oakley of Douglas Street, Toorak, Victoria.
