In a Statutory Declaration, 15 January 1917, his sister, Annie Short TAYLOR, said that he 'deserted about eighteen months ago and enlisted again as James Moir'.

His name is  recorded on the Dundee Roll of Honour.

Son of John and Jessie Short Duncan.

David was the brother of Sapper Peter Short Duncan, 4316, 3rd Tunnelling Company, Australian Engineers.

Brother-in-law: 858 Corporal William Russell TAYLOR, 2nd Tunnelling Company, returned to Australia, 1 June 1919.
