Private Lawrence Grayson (Service Nos:Q106029/QX35146) served with 47th Infantry Battalion in the ACMF (10 September 1941 - 30 July 1942) and the AIF (31 July 1942 - 12 October 1945. Private Grayson served in New Guinea (21 January 1943 - 21 May 1944) and Bougainville (23 December 1944 - 2 October 1945), and was attached to 47th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 12 October 1945.
Youngest of four children, Lawrie was born in Fifeshire, Scotland in 1921) to Ernest Victor Grayson (b1880 in Kent, England) and Annie Douglas Gray (b1882 in Fifeshire, Scorland). Ernest and Annie married in Edinburgh in 1912, and Ernest served in the British Territorial Forces (Private; Regimental No:337009) in WWI. Ernest and Annie immigrated in 1926, Arriving in Brisbane QLD with their children on board the Sophocles. The family lived in Cairns and Ogmore via St Lawrence before settling in Bundaberg - Ernest worked as a Blacksmith.
Lawrie started worked in Bundaberg as a Grocer's Assistant, and was an Assistant Manager (Grocer) in 1941 when he enlisted in the Army. Returning to Bundaberg following his Discharge, in 1946 Lawrie married Cecelia Margaret Sheehan (b1923 in Bundaberg, QLD). Lawrie and Cecelia settled in Bundaberg, where they raised their family and Lawrie was a Grocer until his death in 1985. Cecelia died in 2008.
