Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Charles was the third of five children of John Henry Green (born 1892 at Booval in Ipswich, QLD) and Agnes Grace Feeney (born 1895 at Kircheim, QLD - changed to Haigslea during WWI due to anti German sentiment). John and Agnes married in 1913 in Ipswich, QLD and John worked as a Labourer and Timbergetter at Walloon, Rosewood, Marburg, Roma, Yarraman and Ipswich.

Charles, a Potter's Labourer in Brisbane QLD enlisted in the AMF in January 1940 and served with 15th Infantry Battalion in New Guines as a Corporal (Service No:Q18827). Older brother Arthur Leslie (QX35279) served in WWII and younger brother Robert William served with the RAN as an Ordinary Seaman and Bandsman (Service No:R27859) from 1945 to 1966.

In March 1940 Charles married Jean Smith (born 1921 in Ipswich, QLD), and following Charles' Discharge they lived at Bundamba where Charles resumed employment as a Pottery Labourer. In the early 1950's they moved to Ipswich, where Charles was a Coal Miner. Jean died in 1963, and Charles continued to live in Ipswich where he worked as a Coal Miner and Truck Driver. He died in 2004.
