Douglas Bruce Searle was born in July 1893, in the township of Bruce, SA. He was the son of Annie Kate McDonald and William Searle. Douglas Bruce Searle was a Clerk as a profession before and after the war. He had 4 years as an Army Cadet before joining WW1.

Douglas Searle was 21 and 4 months when he enlisted into the war. He enlisted on the 24th of November 1914. He left Australia 6 months later on the 26th of May 1915, when he embarked on the HMAT Afric. The only injury Douglas Bruce received all through the war was he got diagnosed with malaria on the 3rd of August 1918. A month after getting diagnosed, he was released from hospital and was sent to the depot prior to setting out for his unit again.

After returning home from the war, Douglas Bruce settled down with his partner named Lilian Maud Shepherd in 1921 at Parramatta, NSW, Australia. the couple got married at 1921 at Paramount, NSW. They moved twice throughout their lives and had 2 children. Their kid’s names were Gordon Searle and Robert Searle. Douglas Bruce Searle and his family lived at 69 Mill Hill Rd, Waverley, NSW, Australia in 1930. In 1935 He lived at 7 Randwick, NSW, Australia. Douglas continued his job as a Clerk after the war.
