Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Joe was the fourth of five children of William John Greer (b1890 in Brisbane, QLD) and Mary Elizabeth Elder (b1889 in Roma, QLD). William (a Proof Reader in Brisbane) and Mary (a Dressmaker in Ipswich) married in 1914 and settled in Brisbane where William worked as a Proof Reader. In the early 1930s the family moved to Gordonvale, QLD (near Cairns) where William was a Labourer before returning to Brisbane in the 1940s - William then worked as a Carpenter.

Joe was a Farmer at Boodua on the Darling Downs, QLD when he enlisted in the Australian Army in 1941. He was a Corporal (Service Nos:QX48360/Q103385) attached to 1 Farming Coy AASC when he was Discharged in March 1944. The Army had established the Farming Coys as part of the AASC in 1940 at Adelaide River in the Northern Territory to address health issues (Dengue Fever) and issues related to transport and supply of fresh fruit and vegetables. Other farms were later established - Katherine, Mataranka, Wycliffe Well and Hayes Creek.

Joe returned to the Darling Downs where he was Farmer (Boodua and Jondaryan) until the early 1970s. He purchased a Service Station in Toowoomba QLD, where he died in 2002.
