Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Henry was the eldest of seven children of Bernard Henry Hagan (born 1864 at Beebo in QLD) and Matilda King (born 1874 on Ellengowan Station, Darling Downs, QLD). Bernard was a Selector on the Darling Downs when he married Matilda in 1893. They settled at Turallin on the Darling Downs, where Bernard was a Grazier.

Henry was a Stockman at Turallin when he enlisted in the AIF in January 1916. He served as a Private (Service No:3569) with 31st Infantry Battalion and 8th Australian Brigade HQ, and was Discharged in October 1917. Brother James (Service No:4549) served in WWI. In WWII, Henry served with the ACMF as a Sergeant (Service No:Q225810) with 7 Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps (QLD) from April 1942 to October 1945. Brother William (Service No:Q226338) also served with the ACMF in WWII.

Henry returned to Turallin and was working as a Stockman in 1921 when he married Matilda Martha Heckendorf (born 1881 at Walbundrie in NSW). Matilda had worked as a Dressmaker at Turallin and a Cook at Cecil Plains near Dalby, QLD before her marriage. Henry and Matilda lived at Turallin - where Henry worked as a Stockman - before moving to Boobdandilla on the Darling Downs in 1926. Henry worked there as a Labourer until 1930, when he and Matilda returned to Turallin. Matilda died at Turallin in 1956 and Henry in 1975.
