He appears to have been known by his middle name of Duncan as he is shown on the Plockton War Memorial as D. Matheson.

He enlisted 18 April 1916 and showed his Next of Kin as his mother, Mrs Catherine Matheson, Plockton, Rosshire, Scotland.

He was a labourer in Adelaide, South Australia.

He served in the 27th Battalion, 13th Reinforcement
which embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board A37 Barambah on 27 June 1916

He returned to Australia 23 July 1918
