Private Ronald Horace Hamilton (Service No:QX18427) enlisted in the AIF on 16 July 1941 as a Private - Driver - and was posted to 11 Training Battalion and 2/2 Machine Gun Battalion. Private Hamilton served in the Middle East (2 November 1941 - 10 March 1942) with 5 Coy ASC; and in New Guinea (6 September 1942 - 30 January 1943 and 30 July 1943 - 16 February 1944) with 2/5 Coy ASC and 2/153 Australian General Transport Coy. Private Hamilton then served in Borneo (Balikapan, Morotai) from 29 May 1945 to 14 January 1946, and was attached to 2/8 Australian Transport Platoon at Discharge on 14 February 1946.
Ron was born in Mitchell QLD in 1918, second of five children of Thomas Horace Roy Hamilton (b1894 in Bellingen, New South Wales) and Alice Grant (b1892 in Cheshire, England) - Alice immigrated in 1911, arriving in Sydney on board the St Albans. Thomas was a Farmer/Grazier at Tabulum via Tenterfield NSW in 1914, and he and Alice married in Cootamundra in 1915. The couple moved to QLD, settling in the Mitchell region - initially at Mungalla and then at Glenapp via Mitchell, where they raised their family and Thomas was a Grazier, and Councillor for the Shire of Booringa via Mitchell. In the 1950s Thomas and Alice moved to NSW, living at Evans Head and then Woodburn via Lismore.
Ron was a Station Hand/Stockman on the family property at Glenapp via Mitchell when he enlisted in the Army in 1941. Following his Discharge he returned to Mitchell, where in 1948 he married Iris Merle Leadbetter (b1923 in Mitchell, QLD) - Iris served in the Army (Service No:QF270353) and worked as a Clerk in Mitchell. Ron and Iris settled at Glenapp and then Glenarby via Mitchell, where they raised their family and Ron was a Stockman/Grazier. Ron died in 1993 - 'A Soldier and a Gentleman' (Inscription; Mitchell Cemetery).
