William (QX25619) enlisted in the AIF during WWII as Bernard Hampton, giving his NoK as Ernest Hampton. He gave his birth date as 2nd November 1922 and being born in Dokitfold England when in-fact he was born on the 31st July 1924 in Bowen Qld.

William's war service record obtains a Statutory Declaration dated 4th April 1996 and states that his full name is William Bernard Hampton and in an accompanying letter he admits he was born on the 31st July 1924 and he was 17 years of age when he enlisted on the 14 of December 1941.
