Born in August 1888, Frederick was raised by his next of kin, Mrs M Thompson in King William Road, Hyde Park, South Australia. His religion was Roman Catholic and later he bought a house in Jasper Street, Hyde Park, South Australia. His occupation was a Joiner.
Frederick Haylett Thompson rank was a private who enlisted into the World War 1. He enlisted on the 26th of July 1915 and his service number was 3503. He embarked on the 27th of October 1915 where he boarded the HMAT Benalla A24 ship on a sea voyage from Adelaide to Gallipoli.
On the 19th of July 1916, he enlisted for a nominal role and was promoted as a Lance Corporal and was moved to the 50th Battalion unit. On the 24th of April 1918, he was drafted to Villers – Bretonneux, France and joined his final battalion which was the 50th infantry battalion. His packet number was 5817and his SLSA record number was SRG 76/1/5817. He safely arrived back to Australia on the 1st of May 1919. Upon returning to Australia, he was given a military medal which symbolised active participation in WW1. He was witnessed by George Luther Merrifield who saw him involved in an act of valour. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
After living a long and active life, Frederick Haylett Thompson died on the 4th of October 1968 at the age of 80. His grave is at the Centennial Park Cemetery, South Australia and the cemetery details are Derrick Gardens, Path 10, Grave 686A.
