“This son was one of the 13 Commando’s who volunteered to stay behind when the rest of the Commando’s were evacuated from Timor on the 9th January, 1943. None expected to see these 13 men alive again & led by Major Walker the 2/4th Commandos who had arrived in Darwin recited special prayers of intercession for them. I would refer you to page 59 in the book “Pacific Victory” by Hugh Buggy for a record of these brave men. Sureley these galant men spoken of in the book as the bravest of the brave (13 men against 30,000 Japs) were mentioned in dispatches & deserve at least the Bronze Oak emblem.” By Mary Dunlop
