Hans was born in Gunalda via Gympie, QLD in 1905, second of eight children of Jorgen Peter Heidemann (b1872 in Tonder, Denmark) and Hannah Phippen Woodford (b1874 in Ryde, New South Wales). Jorgen immigrated in 1878 with his parents and siblings, arriving in Maryborough on board the Herschel. The family settled at Goorah via Tiaro and Jorgen started work as a Woodcutter (licensed to cut and split wood) before settling at Kanyan via Gympie, where he was a Farmer in 1895. Jorgen moved to Thompson's Flat Farm at Kilkivan Junction in 1901, and in 1902 was Naturalised and he and Hannah married and settled at Gunalda via Gympie where they raised their family and Jorgen was a Farmer.
Hans worked as a Farm Labourer, and in 1929 in Gympie married Elizabeth Tompkins (b1908 in Gympie, QLD). Hans and Elizabeth settled at Goomboorian via Gympie, where they raised their family and Hans was a Forestry Labourer. In the mid 1940s Hans and Elizabeth moved to Gympie, where Hans worked as a Labourer. Elizabeth died in 1987 and Hans in 1998.
