Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Youngest of three brothers who served in WWII, Private Garnet Norman Henricksen (Service No:Q272303) served in the ACMF with 19 and 23 Infantry Training Battalions and Reinforcements Reception Depot from 22 September 1943 to 13 January 1945 (Discharge: Essential Industry).

Born in 1915 in Bundaberg QLD, Garney was youngest of five children of Henry Henricksen (b1873 in South Kolan via Bundaberg, QLD) and Isabella (Bell) McGeary (b1876 in Bundaberg, QLD). Henry worked on Breusch's Farm in South Kolan as a Labourer before he and Bell married in 1896 in Bundaberg. The couple settled in the Bundaberg region - South Kolan, Gooburrum - where they raised their family and Henry was a Labourer.

Garney worked in South Kolan as a Labourer, and in 1940 in Bundaberg married Elena (Helen) Dudarko (b1919 in Vladisovtok, Russia) - Helen immigrated with her parents and siblings in 1928, arriving in Brisbane on board the Aki Maru. Garney and Helen settled at Callide via Gladstone, where Garney was a Cotton/Mixed Farmer in 1943 when he enlisted in the Army. In the late 1940s Garney and Helen settled in Bundaberg, where they raised their family and Garney was a Labourer until his death in 1983. Helen died in 2012.
