Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

One of three brothers (Thomas and Garnet) who served in WWII, Private Martin Henricksen (Service No:QX13486) served in the AIF at AIF Reception Depot from 27 June 1940 to 23 July 1940 (Medically Unfit).

Tom was born in Bundaberg QLD in 1902, third of five children of Henry Henricksen (b1873 in South Kolan via Bundaberg, QLD) and Isabella (Bell) McGeary (b1876 in Bundaberg, QLD). Henry was a Labourer on Breusch's Farm in South Kolan before he and Bell married in 1896 in Bundaberg. The couple settled in the Bundaberg region - South Kolan, Gooburrum - where they raised their family and Henry was a Labourer.

Tom was a Labourer and competitive Axeman/Wood Chopper in Gooburrum via Bundaberg, before moving to Southport in the early 1930s. In 1932 he married Olive (Dolly) Charlotte Burnitt (b1894 in Southport, QLD). The couple settled in Southport where they raised their family and Tom was a Labourer and Horse Breaker, and member of the Manchester Unity Loyal Advance Lodge until his sudden death in 1941. Tom was described in his Obituary (Trove: 1941) as 'A labourer by occupation, he also hired out horses at Main Beach and was easily recognised in his colourful riding outfit with a wide sombrero'. Dolly died in 1974.
