CHARLES REGINALD McKEOWN, the son of Mr. Charles and Mrs. Sarah McKeown, was born at Forest Lodge, Sydney, on 2nd August, 1890. He was educated at the Fort Street Model Public School, and entered the service of the Bank at Head Office on 7th May, 1907, proceeding to Crookwell in 1911, and Penrith in 1913.

He enlisted on 22nd February, 1915, and left Sydney with reinforcements of the Australian Army Medical Corps in April. Arriving in Egypt at the end of May he was attached to the hospital for duty. Leaving for Gallipoli he joined up with the 4th Field Ambulance there, and was wounded in November and returned to Egypt. Reaching France in March, 1916, he was transferred to the 2nd Australian Tunnelling Company in July, 1917, and received his sergeant’s stripes in the same month.

Sergeant McKeown returned to Australia in April, 1919.
