Ernest Albert Stanley Emmerton was born in Gayndah New South Wales. He is the son of Mary Bodsworth and Alfred Emmerton. His mother was listed as his next-of-kin. Pre-war Ernest was a single farmer but previously served 3 year in the Gayndah Light Horse Brigade. He was 5’ 8” tall and 66.68kg. Ernest had red hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion.
When he enlisted for the war, Ernest was 33 years old and five months. Before registering, he had previously served 3 years in the Gayndah Light Horse. Ernest enlisted on the 15th of September, 1914 in Enoggera, Queensland. He embarked from Brisbane, Queensland onboard the A15 Star of England on the 24th September, 1914.
From September 1914 to May 1917, Ernest Albert Stanley Emmerton served in the Second Light Horse Regiment as a Private. On the 28th May, 1917 he was promoted to Corporal and served until the 23rd September, 1918. He served in Egypt, Gallipoli, and Palestine.
Over this time served, Ernest was transferred to multiple hospitals for a range of different injuries including an eye injury and mumps.
Ernest Albert Stanley Emmerton returned to Australia on the 15th of November in 1918 aboard HT Port Darwin. He disembarked Sydney on the 26th December, 1918 for onward travel to Brisbane and was discharged in February, 1919. He died in September 1925.
