George was the sixth of nine children of Alfred Holt (born 1880 in Rockhampton, QLD) and Alice Annie Hunt (born 1882 at Wilcannia, NSW). Alfred - a Horse Trainer - and Alice married in 1902 in Brisbane, QLD and moved to Rockhampton, QLD where they raised their family.
George, a Jockey, married Joyce Doreen McLachlan (nee Jackson, born 1907 at Boonah in QLD) in 1940 in Rockhampton, QLD. In February 1942 George enlisted in the Army, and was a Private (Service No:Q138657) attached to 1 HTB when he was Discharged in March 1943.
George and Joyce lived in Rockhampton, where George was a Meatworker before moving to Townsville where George worked for the Post Office. In 1963 George and Joyce had moved to Brisbane, QLD and George was a Labourer and Joyce a Barmaid. Joyce died in 1977 and George in 1979.
