Private Vivian Carl Hoppe (Service No:Q144890) initially enlisted in the Militia on 18 July 1940 before enlistng in the ACMF on 28 April 1942. Private/Sapper Hoppe served with General Details Depot (GDD), and was attached to Anti Aircraft Search Light (AASL) Training Battalion at Discharge (Medically Unfit) on 19 April 1943. Son Lenard served in the Vietnam War.

Vivian was born in Brisbane QLD in 1916, second of five children of George Henry Hoppe (b1887 in Caboolture, QLD) and Caroline Noble (b1899 in Brisbane, QLD). George and Caroline married in 1911 in Brisbane, where they settled and raised their family and George worked as a Labourer and Gardener.

Vivian worked as a Labourer in Brisbane, where in 1935 he married Gladys Eva (aka Eva) Springall (b1915 in Brisbane, QLD). Vivian and Eva settled in Brisbane, where they raised their family and Vivian worked as a Labourer, Motor Assembler (MacIntosh Motors in Hamilton), Garage Attendant and Builder's Labourer. Vivian died in 1947 and Eva in 2000.
