Staff Sergeant Gordon Gerald Horsey (Service No:QX9732) enlisted in the AIF on 24 June 1940 as a Private, and served in the Middle East from 27 December 1940 to 17 March 1942. Promoted to Corporal on 10 July 1942, he served in New Guinea (30 October 1943 - 29 September 1944) with 2/33 Australian General Transport Coy, and was a Staff Sergeant on 27 January 1945 when he transferred to 2/42 Transport Platoon. Staff Sergeant Horsey was attached to 1 Corps Troops Supply Column at Discharge on 30 August 1945.
Gordon was born in Brisbane QLD in 1910, second of three children of Herbert Benjamin Horsey (b1872 in Hampshire, England) and Azubah Lillian Trout (b1883 in Brisbane, QLD). Herbert, a Draper's Assistant in Gloucestershire, immigrated in 1900, arriving in Brisbane on board the Barbarossa - his Nominee was Mr Thomas Finney of Messrs Finney, Isles & Co, who had engaged him to manage the Manchester Department of his firm in Brisbane. Herbert and Azubah married in 1907 in Brisbane, where they setteld and raised their family. Herbert was a Draper, a Justice of the Peace, and was active in the Ashgrove Progress Association.
Gordon was a Salesman, Plasterer and Self Employed Builder in Brisbane before enlisting in the Army, and in 1944 in Brisbane married Rosetta Ives (b1913 in Rockhampton, QLD) - Rosetta was a Saleswoman in Brisbane. Following his Discharge from the Army, Gordon and Rosetta settled in Brisbane, where Gordon was a Sack/Bag Merchant and Rosetta a Typist. The couple retired to Shelley Beach in Caloundra, where Rosetta died in 1996 and Gordon in 2007.
