Roy Edwin Howard was the youngest of 4 children of Edwin Howard and Mary Magda,ena John of Ipswich QLD. Brother Morris Percival Howard served in WWII.

Roy was a Storekeeper and married Edna May Smith in Ipswich QLD in 1943. From 1936 to 1941, Roy was in the ACMF 49th Battalion of Brisbane, QLD Moreton Regiment.

In September 1941 he enlisted in the Australian Army and served with 5 Australian Ordinance Sea Craft Platoon as a Sergeant (Service No: Q119419) until his Discharge in February 1946

Roy worked as a Commercial Traveller until his retirement to Labrador QLD
