Add my storyBiography contributed by Kori Backwell
John "Jack" Norman Johnston was an Indigenous Australian who grew up in Cunnamulla, Queensland with his three brothers, two sisters and his mother.
John's two brothers, Henry and Thomas, joined the Australian Army and were deployed to Kokada trail, John put his age up and originally was deployed to the Middle East. Once he found out his brothers were fighting in New Guinea, he requested to transfer to fight along side of them.
John and his two brothers survived the war and made it home to their family. Their mother was presented an award for having all three of her sons come home.
John married and had three children, his first son died 12 months after being born. Even though his marriage did not last, he and his wife never divorced. John worked for the Brisbane City council until he was diagnosed with Gangrene, which caused him to have his leg amputated, he then went blind overnight. John passed away a few weeks later.
John was the type of person to give you anything you needed no matter what it was, he would always go without so you could have what you wanted and needed.
