Add my storyBiography contributed by Lesley Bryant
On 20 January 1944, Arnold was to marry Florence Mae Ninnes at the Anglican Church in South Johnstone where Mae's family lived. However there was an army checkpoint on the highway between Tully (where Arnold's family lived) and South Johnstone which was in the restricted area. When the Jones family arrived at the checkpoint without the proper passes, the officer said they could not enter. This caused great distress so the officer asked who was Arnold marrying? When told it was Mae Ninnes, they were allowed to pass because the officer knew her! The wedding proceeded with both the groom and best man, Maxwell Keith Jones, in uniform.
