Private Herbert Arthur Jones (Service No:QX37047) enlisted in the Army on 29 September 1942 and was attached to 2/43 Infantry Battalion when he embarked from Townsville for Buna on board the Katoomba on 3 December 1943. Private Jones served in New Guinea and Borneo with 2/43 and 2/15 Infantry Battalions and 2/1 Australian Guard Regiment. Private Jones was Discharged on 14 February 1946.

Born in 1906 in Eumundi QLD, Herbert was the second of five children of Arthur Jones (b1877 in Brisbane, QLD) and Edith Gridley (b1881 in Mareeba, QLD). Arthur (a Teamster) and Edith married in Eumundi in 1903 and lived in Eumundi, Ipswich, Brisbane, Roma and Collinsville.

Herbert worked as a Labourer in Gayndah and Cane Cutter in Innisfail before settling in Herberton, QLD where he was a Miner. Following his Army Service, Herbert returned to Herberton, QLD and worked as a Miner. Herbert died in 1978.
