Frederick William Kapernick - QX36117 (Q105899) – Wooroolin WW11 Honour Board
Frederick William Kapernick was born 26 Jan 1907 at Helidon, Qld the 8th of 11 children of Herman & Marie Kapernick.
Frederick moved from Helidon to Wooroolin about 1930. Probably because his sister Annie married Ernest Strenzel in 1927 and they farmed at Wooroolin. His brother Victor Kapernick arrived in Wooroolin about 1936 and farmed there until his death in 1970
Frederick enlisted in the Australian Army on 28 Jul 1942. His Army Records are not available on the NAA website but the WW11 Nominal Rolls show that he was a Trooper in the 5 AUSTRALIAN MOTOR REGIMENT when discharged on 18 Mar 1944. Motor Regiments were Motorised Infantry (Truck Mounted) battalions raised as part of the Armoured Division structure. Most were comprised of units and men that had formerly been Militia Light Horse pre 1941.
The AWM website has digitized 5 war diaries of the 5 Australian Motor Regiment. I read a few pages from some of them. Totally interesting but need time to read them all.

Frederick returned to Wooroolin where he continued to farm, probably with his brother Victor, until sometime in the 1960’s when he moved to NSW.
In 1965 at the age of 58 years he married Miriam Cherrie and I was able to find a photo taken of them on their wedding day courtesy Ancestry.com.
Frederick died in 1986 in the Lewisham district of NSW.
