Biography contributed by Joy Dalgleish

Military Medal – Stan Holgate was recommended for this medal on 20 August 1916 and it appears as if it was not awarded to him

‘ For continuous bravery between 13th-16th Aug 1916, at Pozieres. This man was one of four runners posted at a relay running station between Pond Rogers & the advanced signal station. For 3 days & nights, these men carried messages incessantly under heavy shellfire & through enemy barrages, delivering them with astonishing rapidity over exposed & obliterated tracks & terrain’.

Son of John Holgate, Busselton, Western Australia
