Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Leonard was the youngest of five children (sons) of Thomas Kirk (born 1879 in Glasgow, Scotland) and Johanna (Hannah) Sophia Hartvigson (born 1882 in Tiaro, QLD). Thomas immigrated with his parents in 1883, arriving at Moreton Bay on board the Berwick Law. In 1903 he was working as a Labourer in Gympie, and Hannah was a Domestic Servant at the Railway Hotel in Gympie - they married in 1904. Thomas worked as a Labourer and he and Hannah lived in Warwick, Childers, Inglewood (via Goondiwindi), Kingaroy and Gympie.

Leonard was a Labourer and a Sawmiller in Gympie, QLD and in 1940 married Dulcie Florence Veal (born 1917 in Gympie, QLD). In 1941 Len enlisted in the Australian Army, and was a Gunner (Service No:QX26767) with 2/13 Composite Anti Aircraft Regiment when he was Discharged in November 1945. Two of Len's older brothers also served in WWII - William John (Private, Service No:QX12929) served with 2/26th Infantry Battalion and was a Japanese PoW in Thailand from April 1942 to October 1945. Thomas Edward (Service Nos:QX60248/Q5650) served with the CMF and the Army.

Len and Dulcie settled in Gympie and Len worked as a Sawmiller until 1964, when he commenced work as a PMG Linesman - work he continued when he and Dulcie moved to Tewantin in QLD. Len and Dulcie died in 2000 at Tewantin in QLD.
