Private William Thomas Kliese (Service No:Q89656) had served in the Militia for three years from 15 July 1930 as a Private (Service No:411.079) attached to 9th Battalion. He enlisted in the ACMF on 6 August 1941 and served in New Guinea (6 February 1942 - 20 September 1943) with 49th Infantry Battalion. Private Kliese was Discharged on 30 October 1945.

Born in 1911 in Nundah, Brisbane QLD, William was the sixth of ten children of Hermann (Paul) August Paul Kliese (b1873 in Berlin, Germany) and Sarah Jane Gollagher (b1882 in Nundah, QLD). Paul had immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1878, arriving in Brisbane, QLD on board the Lamershagen, Paul (a Miner) and Sarah married in 1902 in Nundah where they settled and raised their family and Paul worked as a Labourer and Fruit Vendor.

William worked as a Labourer and in 1934 in Brisbane QLD he married Mary Henrietta Vines (b1909 in Brisbane, QLD). William and Mary lived in Ingham and Apple Tree Creek via Childers QLD where William worked as a Labourer. Following his Discharge, the couple lived at Boondall where William was a Contractor before working for the Railways as a Ganger in Sandgate and Gympie. By 1980 they had settled at Deagon in Brisbane QLD. William died in 1995 and Mary in 1997.
