Walter was the second of three children of Johan (John) Kluck (born 1887 at Tarampa, Ipswich, QLD) and Ellen Schekowski (nee Steele, born 1874 in Ipswich, QLD). John was a 21 year old Farmer at North Mondure, QLD when he married 34 year old Widow Ellen in 1908. Ellen had five childen from her first marriage to Xavier Franz Schekoski (1870 - 1906). John and Ellen lived at Kingaroy, Wondai, Murgon and Maryborough where John was a Farmer. Following Ellen's death in 1928, John moved to Goomeri and worked as a Teamster, then moved to NSW, living at Lismore where he was an Electricity Board Worker. By 1958 John had retired and was living at Hastings Point in NSW. He died in Murwillumbah, NSW in 1989 at almost 102 years of age.

Walter worked as a Labourer at Goomeri, Wondai, QLD and enlisted in the Army in September 1942. He was a Private (Service No:Q250046) attached to 16 Works Coy when he was Discharged in April 1946. Older brother Arthur John Kluck (Private, Service No:QX92941) served in WWII, and half brother William Valentine Steele (Private, Service No:3917A) was KiA at the Somme in April 1918.

In August 1946 Walter married Martha May Gablonski (born 1910 at Wondai, QLD) at Murgon, QLD. Martha was a Housemaid at Byee in Wondai. Walter and Martha lived at Kalpowar in Eidsvold, QLD where Walter worked as a Timber Snigger before relocating to Kingaroy in the early 1950s. Walter was a Forestry Worker in Kingaroy until he Retired in 1980. Martha died in Kingaroy in 1987 and Walter in 1996.
