Private Raymond Frederick Knight (Service Nos:Q147112/QX43397) initially served in the ACMF from 29 April 1942 to 20 November 1942, and was a Gunner attached to 113 Light Anti Aircraft Regiment when he enlisted in the AIF on 21 November 1942. Craftsman Knight served with 6th Advanced Workshop and 56 Anti Aircraft Regiment, and was attached to 11 Vehicle Park Work Shops at Discharge on 18 February 1946.
Born in Toowoomba, QLD in 1924, Ray was the second child of Reginald (Harry) Knight (b1894 in Northamptonshire, England) and Katherina Louise Brunner (b1898 in Toowoomba, QLD). Harry was a Baker's Moulder in England before immigrating in 1913 on board the Zealandia. Harry was a Baker in Toowoomba in 1915 when he enlisted in the AIF (Private; Service No:8142). Harry and Katherina married in 1919 in Toowoomba, where they settled and raised their family and Harry was a Baker - he also served in the ACMF in WWII (Private; Service No:Q232604).
Ray was a Labourer/Blacksmith's Striker in Toowoomba when he enlisted in the Army in 1942. In 1945 in Toowoomba he married Florence May Binns (b1925 in Toowoomba, QLD). Ray and Florence settled in Toowoomba, where they raised their family and Ray worked as a Joiner and Builder. Ray died in 1984 and Florence in 2012.
