Arthur was the third of four children of James Martin Lang (b1878 in Scotland) and second wife Ada Dorothy Butler (b1898 in Gympie, QLD) James arrived in Brisbane QLD with his parents and siblings in 1888 on board the Roma. James worked on the Railways in Brisbane and Maryborough and in 1921 in Gympie, QLD he and Ada married in St Patrick's Church. They settled in Gympie where they raised their family.
Arthur was in Brisbane, QLD in December 1941 when he enlisted in the Army (Sapper; Service Nos:QX36090/Q125057). He was attached to 18 Field Coy when he was Discharged in June 1946.
Returning to Brisbane, Arthur worked as a Mechanic and in 1948 married Oriel Rosalind Medlin (b1926 in Mt Morgan, QLD). The couple settled in Brisbane until Oriel's death in 1952. Arthur then returned to Gympie where he lived with his mother Ada follwoing his father's death in 1963. Arthur worked as a Mail Officer in Gympie, where he died in 1998.
