Private Alva Roydon Lawson (Service No:Q25496) enlisted in the AIF on 9 December 1941 and was attached to 41st Field Training Battery as a Driver/Mechanic. In March 1942 Private Lawson was transferred to No 1 Docks Operating Coy and served in Darwin NT (18 April 1942 - 15 November 1942). He served in Moresby and Lae (6 July 1943 - 25 February 1945) with 1 Australian Port Maintenance Coy RAE and 2/2 Docks Operating Coy. On 30 August 1945 Private Lawson embarked from Brisbane for Wewak on board the Tarooma, and then embarked for the RTA on 10 February 1946 on board the Westralia. Private Lawson was attached to 1 Australian Port Maintenance Coy when he was Discharged on 22 February 1946.
Born in 1920 in Maryborough QLD, Alva was the third of four children of Peter Lawson (b1894 in Gympie, QLD) and Christina Norwood (b1893 in Maryborough, QLD). Peter (a Miner) and Christina married in 1913 in Maryborough QLD and lived in Bundamba nr Ipswich, Maryborough and Howard, Wide Bay in QLD where Peter was a Miner.
Alva worked as a Labourer in Maryborough prior to his enlistment, and returned to Maryborough following his Discharge. Alva worked as a Labourer and Bridge Carpenter. His name was one of 150 signatures of soldiers discovered in October 2008 during renovations to Brisbane City Hall basement - The City Hall Signature Wall (Soldiers' Wall) - in what had been the urinal of the Red Cross Cafe - soldiers had scrawled their names, service numbers and amusing mottos on the wall.
