Ronald was the youngest of four children of Samuel Little (born 1885 in Durham, England) and Grace McCormick (born 1886 in Scotland). Samuel (an Engine Fitter) married Grace in 1913 in Scotland and they lived in Jarrow, Durham, where Samuel was an Engine Fitter. In 1925 they immigrated with their three children to QLD on board the Sophocles. The family settled at Sarina near Mackay in QLD where Samuel was a Fitter.

Ronald was a Shop Assistant in Sarina, QLD when he enlisted in the Army in April 1945. He served as a Private and Corporal (Service No:QX:63482) and was attached to 33 Lines of Communication Salvage Depot when he was Discharged in April 1946. Older brothers John McCormick (Gunner, Service No:QX60842) and Walter (Private, Service No:QX32413) also served in WWII.

Returning to Sarina, QLD, Ronald was working as a Butcher in 1956 when he married June Dorothy Crole (born 1932 in Sarina, QLD) - June was a Waitress at the Commercial Hotel in Sarina. Ronald and June settled in Sarina, where Ronald worked as a Labourer until his death in 1985.
