Jack was the fourth of six children of Charles Henry MacKenzie (b1888 in Ipswich, QLD) and his first wife Kathleen May Gorman (b1881 in Toowoomba, QLD). Charles - a Labourer - and Kathleen married in 1908 in Ipswich, QLD. They lived in Warwick and Goondiwindi where Charles worked as a Railway Porter. Following Kathleen's death in 1924, Charles moved his family to Ipswich where he worked as a Labourer and remarried in 1931.
Jack was a Labourer in Ipswich, QLD when he enlisted in the Australian Army in 1943. He was a Sapper (Service Nos:QX50717/Q59829) attached to 7 Field Coy when he was Discharged in April 1946. Uncle David John (Private; Service No:457) was KiA in France in 1916, and brothers William (Sergeant; Service Nos:QX39561/Q59830) and Leslie (Les) Raymond (Sapper; Service Nos:QX50935/Q11319) served in WWII.
Returning to Ipswich, Jack worked as a Labourer before moving to Brisbane where in 1951 he married Catherine (Cassie) Veronica Dunne (b1919 in Brisbane, QLD) - Cassie was a Clerk. Jack and Cassie settled in Toowong, Brisbane where Jack worked as a Linesman. Jack died in 1995.
