Private Ronald Hemple Lindsay McHardie (Service No:Q217738) served in the ACMF from 23 May 1942 to 21 October 1945 with 16 Battalion VDC (QLD). He served with Senior Cadets in 1926/1927 and following WWII was a Pilot Officer with the Air Force Reserves (Service No:018055). Younger brother Warren (Service No:QX11542) was KiA in New Guinea in 1942.

Born in 1910 in Mackay QLD, Ron was the eldest of two children of Charles Gilchrist McHardie (b1887 in Brisbane, QLD) and  Elizabeth Jessie Lindsay (b1892 in Mackay, QLD). Charles (a Farmer) and Elizabeth married in Mackay in 1909 and settled at Windemere nr Mackay where they raised their family and Charles was a Farmer, before moving to Brisbane in the early 1940s.

Ron was a Shop Assistant in Mackay before moving to Townsville in the mid 1930s where he worked as a Salesman and Branch Manager. In 1940 in Brisbane, Ron married Gwenda Maud Norris (b1912 in Brisbane, QLD) - Gwenda was a Singing Teacher and Dance Instructress in Townsville. In the late 1940s Ron and Gwenda moved to Brisbane, where Ron was a Manager and Gwenda ran a Dance Studio. Following Ron's death in 1962 Gwenda worked as a Librarian - she died in 1985.
