One of three siblings (Edgar and Ettie) who served in WWII, Private Roy William McKenzie (Service No:QX4457) served in the Army with 6 Australian Division from 3 November 1939 to 26 April 1940) - Discharged for Family Reasons.

Bill was born in Roma, QLD in 1910, fifth of eight children of Alexander (Sandy) John McKenzie (1867 in Coonabarabra, New South Wales) and Margaret Eliza Maude Hobson (b1884 in Leyburn, QLD). Sandy and Margaret married in 1905 in Charleville, and settled at Mungalalla where they raised their family and Sandy worked as Trapper and Labourer before becoming a Settler on 'Woodbine' via Mungalalla by 1914. Sandy served as a Member of the Mungalalla State School Committee.

Bill worked as a Labourer in Mungalalla, and played cricket for the Post Office Team. In 1935 in Mitchell, he married Marion Edith Turner (b1910 in Quorn, South Australia) - Marion was a Nurse at the Mitchell Hospital. Bill and Marion lived in Mungalalla, where Bil was a Labourer, and in 19139 when Bill enlisted in the Army, Bill was an unemployed Butcher in Radcliffe in Brisbane. Following his Discharge in 1940, Bill and Marion moved to Roma - Bill was Overseer at 'Tallawalla' via Roma. By 1949 the couple had settled in Roma, where they raised their family and Bill worked as a Bridge Labourer until retirement. Marion died in 1984 and Bill in 2000 at Terranora on the QLD/NSW border (Tweed Heads)
