Younger of the two brothers (Hal) who served in the Army in WWII, Private Stanley Rorke McKillop (Service No:QX30945) enlisted in the AIF on 30 March 1942 and Marched In to 26 Battalion. Private McKillop served in New Guinea (1943) with 47 Infantry Battalion, and later was attached to HQ 3 Artillery Battalion (Jungle Warfare). Private McKillop was attached to 47 Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 5 December 1945.
Stan was born in Herberton QLD in 1914, fourth of five children of Colin Michael Stephen McKillop (b1876 in Clermont QLD) and Letitia Jane Apps (b1888 in Orange, New South Wales). Colin worked as a Labourer in Rockhampton, and was a Tin Miner at the Wet and Dry River Mines via Herberton in 1909 when he and Letitia married. They settled in Herberton, where they raised their family and Colin was a Tin Miner, In the 1920s the family moved to Cairns, where Colin was a Builder's Labourer with the Cairns City Council.
Stan was a member of Kangaroos Football Club in Cairns, and a Hairdresser and Tobacconist when he enlisted in the Army. In 1943 in Cairns he married Margaret Josephine Fitzgerald (b1914 in Herberton, QLD). Following his Discharge from the Army, Stan and Margaret settled in Brisbane, where they raised their family and Stan was a Hairdresser until his death in 1975, Margaret died in 2004.
