Captain Tom McLean is considered the one of the pioneers of the Tourism industry of Mackay.
He owned the Mackay Hotel, and after the war, was the founder of Roylen Cruises in 1946. Later Captain Tom bought Brampton Island Resort in 1962 until 1985 when TAA took over the resort. Tom's first boat was the Shangri-la, the former personal water transport of General Douglas Macarthur.
Tom bought ex-navel launches for his company.
He owned a fleet of Roylen cruises that sailed from Mackay every Tuesday morning. There were six of them and they departed on the cruises that left on Tuesday and returned on Saturday and TAA looked after the reservations and all booking enquiries.
Tom wrote a book about his life in 1986, Captain Tom.
