Edward was the youngest of four children (sons) of Norman (Nobby) Metcalfe (born 1892 in Brisbane, QLD) and first wife Alice May Collins (born 1895 in Cairns, QLD). Nobby was a Labourer in Cairns, QLD in 1912 when he married Alice. They settled in Cairns, and were Divorced in 1923. Nobby worked as a Farmer and bus Proprietor, and in 1935 married Alice Louisa Cecilia Fry (born 1911 in Cairns, QLD - Alice was working as a Wardsmaid.
Edward was a Plumber in Cairns, QLD when he enlisted in the Australian Army in April 1943. He was a Sergeant (Service Nos:QX51331/Q38941) attached to 42 Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged in May 1946. Brothers George, William and Norman also served in WWII.
In 1946 in Perth, WA Edward married Ivy Nettley (Born 1922 in WA) and they settled in Perth where Edward worked as a Plunmber. Edward died in 1971 and Ivy in 2017.
