Bernard was the third of seven children of John Aloysius Molloy (born 1882 in Ipswich, QLD) and Ann (Annie) Veronica Byrne (born 1884 at Pine Mt via Ipswich, QLD). John was a Labourer in Ipswich, QLD in 1910 when he and Annie married. They settled in Ipswich where they raised their family and John worked as a Striker on the Railways. Following Annie's death in 1934, John relocated to Brisbane, QLD and later remarried.

Bernard was working as a Farm Labourer at Glamorganvale in Walloon, QLD in 1941 when he enlisted in the ACMF. He was a Private (Service No:Q107718) attached to Motor Transport Coy when he was Discharged in 1942. Brothers Rody (Lance Corporal; Service Nos:QX56452/Q128290) and John (Sapper; Service No:Q128262) also served in WWII.

Bernard worked as a Farm Labourer at Glamorganvale before moving to Ipswich in 1949 where he was a Labourer. In the late 1950s Bernard moved to Scarborough near Brisbane, QLD where he was a Labourer. He died in 1969.
