Leslie was the sixth of seven children of Edward Richard Muir (born 1861 in Balmain, NSW) and Jane Sloan (born 1868 in Rockhamton, QLD). Edward and Joan married in 1891 in Rockhampton, QLD where Edward worked as a Boatman. Joan died in 1906 

Leslie worked as a Labourer, Station Hand and Miner and in 1925 married Hannah Allison Hone (born 1904 in Durham, England). Hannah arrived in Brisbane, QLD with her family in 1912 on board the Waipara. Following Hannah's death in 1934, Leslie was a Widower with one daughter. He worked as a Station Hand and Drover and in 1941 enlisted in the AMF. Leslie served as a Private (Service No:Q42304) with 49th Infantry Battalion and was on Thursday Island from March 1941 to July 1942. Leslie was Discharged in January 1945 and returned to Brisbane, QLD.

Leslie was working as a Nurse in Brisbane, QLD when he married Nellie Mildred Prackert (nee Kirby; born 1906 in Sandgate, QLD) in 1945. Leslie and Nellie lived at Kangaroo Point in Brisbane, where Leslie was a Nurse. Leslie died in 1963 and Nellie in 1999.
