2722 Charles James MOWATT (born MOWAT) was the twin-brother to 2739 William Alexander MOWATT (born MOWAT), both enlisted on the 19 July 1915 at Maryborough VIC and embarked Melbourne on 27 Oct 1915 aboard the H.M.A.T. "Ulysses" bound for Gallipoli but destination charged to Cairo mid-trip. They arrived at Cairo several weeks prior to the evacuation of Gallipoli.

Charles was wounded in action in France, with a gun shot wound to his left thigh (severe) on the 27 May 1918. His brother, William was also wounded in action, a month earlier in France with a severe gun shot wound to his left buttock and arm. 

Both Charles and his brother William survive the war and returned to Australia.
