Craftsman John Christopher Nelson (Service No:QX29933) enlisted in the Army on 31 January 1942 and served with 2nd/4th Armoured Regiment Workshops in New Guinea and Bougainville (25 August 1944 - 8 December 1945). Craftsman Nelson was briefly attached to 57/60 Infantry Battalion (27 November 1945) and was Discharged on 14 December 1945.

Born in 1903 at Wallal near Charleville QLD, John was the second of six children of Christopher (Chris) Johann Colombus Nelson (b1877 at Baking Board near Chinchilla, QLD) and Minnie Sommerfield (b1883 at Chinchilla, QLD). Chris (a Council Worker/Labourer) and Minnie married in 1901 in Charleville, QLD where they lived until the early 1920s and Chris was a Labourer and Council Worker. By 1923 the family was in Brisbane, QLD.

John worked as a Bootmaker in Brisbane and in 1927 in Pittsworth he married Eda (Ida) Marie Kruger (b1902 in Pittsworth, QLD). John and Eda lived in Brisbane where John was a Bootmaker before moving to Millermerran in the 1930s where John was a Labourer. Following his Discharge, John and Eda settled in Brisbane where John worked as a Canecutter. John died in 1955 and Eda in 1985.
